History : The Real Story of Thanksgiving

 Hello everyone,

Today is Thanksgiving!

The first Thanksgiving holiday meal took place in 1621, when pilgrims and Native Americans famously shared a meal to give thanks to God for a sucessful harvest. It was declared a national holiday in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.

In history class, we watched this video about the real story of thanks giving and tried to answer these questions:

1. Where did the story of Thanksgiving start?
2. When did the pilgrims arrive at the Hudson Valley?
3. What did the pilgrims do once they had decided to live there?
4. Were the pilgrims alone in this new place?
5. What important event changed the pilgrims behaviour?
6. Who was Squanto?
7. What traditional dish is cooked for Thanksgiving day?

What did you know about Thanksgiving before you watched the video? Are you surprised by the origins of this national holiday?
