Biology : parts of a plant

Image
Hello everyone, in Biology (1ESO) we are studying the different parts of plants and their functions. In this first class, we watched a video and answered ten questions, labelled a diagram and completed a gap fill. Watch the video and try the tasks yourself!  Watch the video ‘Parts of a Plant’ and answer the questions:  What do roots absorb from the soil?  What is the other function of the roots?  What is the function of the stem?  What is transported in the phloem?  What is transported through the xylem? What happens in the leaves of a plant? What is exchanged in the leaves of a plant?  What is the purpose of a flower?  Which pollinators are mentioned in the video?  Why are petals colourful?  Label the plant diagram:  Roots leaf seeds stem flower  Parts of a plant :  Plants have three main parts: the leaves, the stem and the roots. Fill the gaps in these sentences.  Leaves  Water photosynthesis gases transpiration green  The leaves are normally  __________

Art : geometry word searches

Image
Hello everyone,  In art class we have been studying geometry, last week we completed these word searches together and students answered questions about the terms.  Why not have a go at drawing each of these shapes? Alice

Art : Draw with your imagination!

Image
Hello everyone,  In my first art class with 1ESO, we put their listening and artistic ability to the test. Students have been studying geometry in English, so first we recapped the vocabulary they already knew before starting the main task. The students had to listen carefully as I described the image and draw what they heard. At the end of the class, we revealed the image to see how closely they had been able to follow the description. They all did very well!  How would you describe the image? Do you think you would be able to complete a comprehension class like this one?  Alice

Technology : Ohm's law

Image
Hello everyone,  In Technology we have been continuing our study of electricity, specifically electrical circuits.  In this class, we found out about Ohm's Law and how to apply it. Have a look at the presentation and questions below: Alice

Biology : Circulatory system disorders

Image
Hello everyone,  In Biology, we have been discussing the circulatory system and it's associated disorders, specifically heart attacks and strokes.  Check out this video, presentation and worksheet we completed in class: True or false? Humans have a single circulatory system  Carbon dioxide is not removed from the blood  The blood is pumped through the aorta  Deoxygenated blood flows into the veins and back to the heart through the vena cava.  Draw arrows to pair the English to the Spanish  Lungs Arteria  Vein  Hígado  Heart Vena  Liver Corazón Gut Riñón Kidneys Intestinos  Artery Pulmones  Label the diagram of the circulatory system  What causes a heart attack?  What are three symptoms of a heart attack?  What causes a stroke?  How can you identify a stroke?  Complete the table  Modifiable risk factors  Non-modifiable risk factors  I hope you learnt something new!  Alice

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Image
Hello everyone,  We want to wish you a very happy Saint Patrick's day from I.E.S J. A Pérez Mercader!  Take a look at this amazing display of top hats our students created, fit for leprechauns everywhere!  St. Patrick's day is an Irish tradition, but it is celebrated all over the world on the 17th of March every year. St. Patrick is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. He was born in the fourth century and is famous for bringing Christianity into Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated with traditional Irish music, food and drinks, dressing in green and generally having a good time! Check out this video to find out more about the celebrations, specifically why it has become a global event  Enjoy!  Alice

Technology : Series and parallel circuits

Image
Hello everyone,  In this Technology class we discussed the differences between parallel and series circuits and how to use Ohms law to answer questions about circuits.  This video is a great resource to give students an overview of the theme:  Check out the worksheet here: In a parallel circuit , the current flows along more than one path to each of the components.  In a series circuit , the current flows along one path through all the components.  Ohms law : As the voltage across a resistor is increased, what happens to the resistance of the resistor  It decreases  It remains constant  It increases  2. What is the current in this circuit?  6A 2A 0.5 A 3. What is the resistance of the resistor in this circuit?  20 Ω 1.8Ω 0.05Ω 4. If the resistance in the circuit is halved, what will the current be?  0.3A 0.6A 0.15A 5. The diagram shows part of a circuit. What is the resistance of the resistor shown?  9Ω 4Ω 0.25Ω 6. The diagram shows part of a circuit. What is the reading shown on the

Physics and Chemistry : Chemistry and the environment

Image
Hello everyone,  In Physics and Chemistry, we have been studying the relationship between humans and the natural world, particularly our impact on the environment, discussing the effects of acid rain, the greenhouse effect and the destruction of the ozone layer. Check out the presentation, video and worksheet questions below!  Complete the table by matching the name with the formula  Nitric acid  carbon dioxide carbonic acid  sulfur dioxide   sulphuric acid Nitrogen oxide  Chemical name  Formula  CO2 NO SO2 HNO3 H2SO4 H2CO3 Label the acid rain diagram  The greenhouse effect - true or false  The greenhouse effect keeps the earth cool  The higher the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, the more radiation is reflected towards the Earth’s surface  The greenhouse effect doesn’t cause major damage  The melting of the ice caps and rising sea levels are caused by the greenhouse effect  Fill in the gaps  O3 Radiation   Hole Antarctica Ozone  The stratos
