Art : artist interviews

Image
Hello everyone,  In art class students have been preparing a series of questions for their artist interviews, posing as famous figures such as Frida Khalo, Pablo Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci and Georgia O'Keeffe. At home, they had to research their artist and come to class ready to tell everyone all about themselves as their artist persona!  Some students dressed up and really got into character. The questions and answers taught us all a lot about each artist, from their most famous works, their families, where we can see their art today and where they lived. This class allowed students to practice saying dates in English, as well as using both present and past tenses.  What famous artist would you want to talk about?  Alice

Art : Student´s art auction

Image
Hello everyone,  In this Art class we held an auction for the art students produced last term. They each had a budget of a thousand pounds to spend and practiced their bidding skills to secure their favourite paintings. We watched this video from Sotheby´s to help us understand the pace of an auction before we got started!  Students used these prompts to help them get the best deal for their rich clients on the phone... I want to bid…… pounds for this painting…. I want to buy the painting because… This artist is important because…  My final offer is....    I can make a better offer… I need this painting for my collection because... If I am the highest bidder, I will…. Alice

Biology : Deadly mushrooms

Image
Hello everyone,  Students have been learning about fungi in Biology class, so I decided to give them a lesson all about deadly mushrooms. We watched a video about the diverse uses for mushrooms and then split the class into pairs. Each pair was assigned a different mushroom and given a fact card about their fungi. They had to read the information, and then share their findings with the rest of the class, before completing a poster fact file. Check out all of the info below!  Death cap  The Death cap is a deadly poisonous fungus. It is found across Europe, and now in other parts of the world. The mushrooms appear in summer and autumn; they are generally green in colour with a white stalk. The Death cap is one of the most poisonous of all known mushrooms. It is estimated that as little as half a mushroom contains enough toxin to kill an adult human. It has been involved in the majority of human deaths from mushroom poisoning, possibly including the deaths of Roman Emp...

Art : real or fake?

Hello everyone,  In this art class, we used this website to play a game of spot the difference, and spot the fake! Students had to identify and describe where the difference in the painting was in English, practising their use of prepositions of place and adjectives.  Have a look at these examples, can you spot the differences in these paintings? Which one is real and which is fake? Have a go at playing here ! Alice
